Byetta

Class Action Lawsuits - Byetta

Byetta is an injectable type 2 diabetes drug that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005. Byetta has been taken by over 700,000 diabetes patients in the U.S to reduce blood sugar levels. Byetta is an incretic mimetic, which means it mimics the action of the incretin hormones to increase insulin production and decrease the amount of glucose the liver produces.

In 2007, the FDA issued an alert regarding a link between Byetta and pancreatitis, which could lead to possible fatal injuries. The FDA had received 30 reports of acute pancreatitis associated with Byetta, and Byetta's manufacturer agreed to update the warning label.

In 2008, the FDA issued a second alert to inform healthcare providers about six more cases of necrotizing pancreatitis or hemorrhagic pancreatitis reported by Byetta users, two of which had resulted in fatal injuries. Other side effects caused by Byetta were severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe appetite loss, high/low blood pressure and elevated heart rates.

If you or someone you love has been taking Byetta, it is advised to discontinue its use if you have experienced any of the aforementioned side effects. If you have been injured by taking Byetta, speak to a class action lawyer about what steps you can take to ensure you receive compensation.
