Medication Class Action Lawsuits

Bar Association ApprovedThere are many different drugs on the market today that are used for a variety of illnesses. When your doctor prescribes a particular medication, you most likely won't think twice about taking it, with the assumption that anything your doctor prescribes must be safe. That assumption comes easy, especially since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the pharmaceutical industry.

In too many cases, pharmaceutical companies place profits before consumer safety. When medications cause harm and injury to consumers, they have the right to raise their voice in a class action lawsuit. Two such medications that have been recalled due to their damaging side effects are Yasmin/Yaz and Byetta.

Yasmin was introduced in 2001 and later in 2006 as Yaz, as a combined hormonal oral contraceptive. Side effects such as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary Embolism (PE), heart attack, stroke and death were prevalent among women who used Yasmin/Yaz. The worst side effects for Yasmin/Yaz users was stroke and pancreatitis. A growing number of Yasmin/Yaz users filed a class action lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare and Berlex Laboratories with allegations that Yasmin/Yaz was designed, manufactured, produced, distributed and advertised negligently and improperly.

Byetta is an injectable type 2 diabetes drug that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005, taken by over 700,000 diabetes patients in the U.S to reduce blood sugar levels. In 2007, the FDA issued an alert regarding a link between Byetta and pancreatitis, which could lead to possible fatal injuries. Side effects caused by Byetta were severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe appetite loss, high/low blood pressure and elevated heart rates.

Consumers that have been injured by using Yasmin/Yaz or Byetta may be entitled to compensation. If you have been affected by recalled medications or have experienced side effects, it is advised for you to meet with a class action lawyer about the steps you can take to ensure you get just compensation.

Class action lawyers know the risks of serious health problems caused by Yasmin/Yaz and Byetta and are committed to ensuring a consumer's safety and recovery. Lawyers have an extensive base of legal resources to develop litigation. A lawyer can advise you if joining a Yasmin/Yaz class action lawsuit or a Byetta class action lawsuit can help you receive compensation for suffering serious side effects, taking time away from work and pain and suffering.
