Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Implant
The Metasul Durom Acetabular Component, also known as the Zimmer Durom Cup hip implant, is an artificial hip part that was approved in the U.S in 2006.
The Zimmer Durom Cup differs from traditional hip replacement parts since it is made of a single piece of material and made to address problems such as wear of the beating, instability and limited range of motion.
Several U.S surgeons have reported a high expected rate of failure and loosening of the Zimmer Durom Cup which eventually requires revision surgery. A well-known Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Larry Dorr, wrote a letter to the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons about the problems he encountered with the Zimmer Durom Cup, indicating that the fixation surface on the cup was not good enough, which prevented it from seating fully.
After data was reviewed from over 3,000 cases, Zimmer put a hold on Zimmer Durom Cup sales until all labels are updated with special instructions for surgeons to use. By that time, there were over 12,000 U.S patients who had already received the artificial hip component from surgeons that were not aware of the proper instructions or training.
If you have been injured by the Zimmer Durom Cup or subject to a hip replacement revision surgery, joining a class action lawsuit might work to your favor. Class action lawyers can aggressively investigate and review hip defect cases and complications involving the Zimmer Durom Cup.
The following criteria apply to Zimmer Durom Cup class action lawsuit cases:
- Patients must have had the Zimmer Durom Cup hip implant as opposed to other Zimmer hip implants
- The Durom Cup hip implant was used from June 2006 to July 2008, therefore any other implant over a year before or after that time span is most likely not a Durom Cup
- It may be necessary to request medical records from the hip replacement surgery if a patient is not sure. Medical records will indicate which type of hip implant was used
Class action lawyers can gather information on the original joint replacement surgery and the revision surgery, so they can assist you with getting the compensation you need for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
