When public officials are sworn into office, they should be well aware that their lives will be put under a spotlight. While these authoritative figures' minor personal problems can tarnish their reputation if the news goes public, it's when they break the law that they find themselves amid a steep uphill battle of reestablishing credibility.
However, with the help of an experienced California criminal lawyer from a trusted attorney referral service, bureaucrats can rely on adequate legal representation in their fight for justice.
Jessie James White, a city councilman in Riverside, California, was arrested after he allegedly hit a parked car in Oakdale, California around 1 a.m. on February 20. The 23-year-old collided with a parked 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, according to police, before attempting to park his vehicle.
A witness on the scene, J.D. Visser, 19, claimed that he saw the very intoxicated White trying to move his damaged Corvette into a parking spot, and in doing so, hit several other parked cars, according to CBS13 Sacramento. Visser helped him get out of the car and sat him on the curb, when he noticed that there was a bloodied young boy in the car, White's 4-year-old son.
When Visser tried to help the boy out of the vehicle, he said that White took off running. He was caught and held down by witnesses until authorities arrived and detained him on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment.
This isn't White's first run in with the law though. In 2010, White was charged with felony possession of cocaine and misdemeanor drug counts. He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor, enabling him to keep his position on the city council.
