Police detained one of the suspects after she tried to use a stolen ATM card.

Bonnie and Clyde schemes seem to always be more creative than the last. Whether a couple of crooks plot to steal from an establishment as large as a bank or a seemingly harmless individual like a blind elderly woman, the two partners in crime typically find themselves looking for a third party to help them out – a criminal lawyer.

This is the case for Dianne Escarsega, 45, and her boyfriend, Brent Longo, 31, who have been arrested for allegedly pilfering goods from a legally blind 97-year-old woman that lives in a senior-living community in Murrieta, California.

Escarsega supposedly knocked on the victim's door, and claimed to be a caretaker from the hospital. Police reports indicated that Escarsega inspected the house and shortly thereafter let Longo into the home.

With the victim distracted, Longo took a .25 caliber semi-automatic gun, an ATM card, cash and a house key.

Since the senior citizen had extensively poor eyesight, she was unable to provide a physical description of the suspects to police.

"It's very angering to think that there's people out there that will prey on those in society such as children and elderly that sometimes can't defend themselves, it just really makes you very angry," Murrieta Police Captain Dennis Vrooman told Los Angeles ABC affliliate KABC-TV.

Fortunately for authorities, however, they were able to obtain a picture of the female suspect from an ATM machine that she attempted to withdraw funds from using the stolen card. Police were able to identify the woman in the image as Escarsega and detained her without incident.

The female suspect identified Longo as her accomplice to police, and he was also taken into custody. Both Escarsega and Longo were booked on suspicion of residential burglary and elder abuse. Longo also faces additional charges for possession of a controlled substance and concealment of a firearm.
