"Lethal Weapon" star Gary Busey can no longer pay his off his debts and has filed for bankruptcy.

It's no mystery that movie stars can fill up a bank account rather quickly. But, living a life in the spotlight brings added pressure from sources like drugs, alcohol and gambling, which can make those funds disappear rather quickly.

"Lethal Weapon" star Gary Busey, who appeared on Season 2 of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," has had a well-documented history of substance abuse problems. He even admitted in an interview on "Access Hollywood" that his addictions brought him to such a low point that he had once inhaled drugs off his dog. Busey's vices seem to have finally caught up with him though, as multiple sources report that he has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in California.

"As with many great American institutions, i.e., General Motors, American Airlines and many others who have utilized the strategic business tool called bankruptcy, Gary Busey's filing is the final chapter in a process that began a few years ago of jettisoning the litter of past unfortunate choices, associations, events and circumstances that visited themselves upon this great American icon," the actor's publicist Michael Conley said in a statement.

Busey reportedly indicated that he has less than $50,000 worth of assets, but owes between $500,000 and $1 million to the Internal Revenue Service, various lawyers, UCLA Medical Center, Wells Fargo and L.A. County Waterworks Districts, among others.
